Google AI Search Engine, MAGI
Google is set to launch new AI-powered search tools next month, with additional features to follow in the autumn, according to The New York Times. Available initially in the US and to a maximum of one million users, the Magi project is expected to build on Googleās experimental Bard chatbot. The move is part of efforts to counter rivals such as Microsoftās Bing chatbot and OpenAIās ChatGPT, which are seen as potential replacements for traditional search engines. Samsung has reportedly been considering replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine on its mobile devices, potentially costing Google $3 billion in revenue. Link to NYT article with more details here and SER article here.
Iāve never seen Google so far behind the competition in my lifetime. This is a classic case of new technology causing great companies to fail as outlined in the book āThe Innovator's Dilemmaā.
Amazon Enters The AI Race With Bedrock
I was waiting for thisā¦Amazon has launched Amazon Bedrock, which allows customers to build generative AI-powered apps using pre-trained models from third-party startups hosted on AWS. Bedrock includes a range of generative AI model vendors, such as Stability AI, AI21 Labs, and Anthropic, along with Titan FMs, a family of models trained in-house by AWS. Customers can customise any Bedrock model by pointing the service at a few labeled examples in Amazon S3. Detailed writeup here.
Amazon Bedrock provides you the flexibility to choose from a wide range of FMs built by leading AI startups and Amazon so you can find the model that is best suited for what you are trying to get done. With Bedrockās serverless experience, you can get started quickly, privately customize FMs with your own data, and easily integrate and deploy them into your applications using the AWS tools and capabilities you are familiar with (including integrations with Amazon SageMaker ML features like Experiments to test different models and Pipelines to manage your FMs at scale) without having to manage any infrastructure.
Elon To Launch ChatGPT Competitor, TruthGPT
Do you recall the six-month pause letter that Elon signed a few weeks ago? Or the 10,000 GPUs he purchased last week? We now know why.
Elon Musk plans to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) platform called "TruthGPT" to compete with Google and Microsoft. He criticized Microsoft-backed OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, for "training the AI to lie" and becoming a "closed source," "for-profit" organization closely allied with Microsoft. Musk has been poaching AI researchers from Google to launch a startup to rival OpenAI. Musk and a group of AI experts previously called for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI's GPT-4, citing potential risks to society. Musk also reiterated his warnings about the potential of AI to cause "civilizational destruction" and manipulate public opinion. More details here and his tweet below.
AI-Generated Song Is Blowing Up On TikTok
A new AI-generated song called 'Heart on My Sleeve', featuring what sounds like fake Drake and The Weeknd, is trending on TikTok and Twitter. The song was purportedly created solely using AI programming, with no human involvement in its creation. It features a bass-heavy club beat and Drake's opening verse, followed by The Weeknd's chorus. Twitter users are claiming that the song is the work of a tech startup, which could be concerning for music labels if true.
Some music streaming services such as Apple Music, Deezer, and TIDAL, appear to have pulled down the track over the course of today (April 18). The recording in question currently remains, however, on services such as YouTube, SoundCloud, and Spotify. Check YouTube link below before it gets taken down too.
Drake and The Weeknd are both signed with Republic Records, a subsidiary of the Universal Music Group.š¤ Interesting, both artists are signed to the same record label, which could raise speculation about whether it is a well-planned publicity stunt. Universal Media Group has released statement below.
UMGās success has been, in part, due to embracing new technology and putting it to work for our artistsāas we have been doing with our own innovation around AI for some time already.
"With that said, however, the training of generative AI using our artistsā music (which represents both a breach of our agreements and a violation of copyright law) as well as the availability of infringing content created with generative AI on DSPs, begs the question as to which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation.
"[This] begs the question as to which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation."
"These instances demonstrate why platforms have a fundamental legal and ethical responsibility to prevent the use of their services in ways that harm artists.
"Weāre encouraged by the engagement of our platform partners on these issuesāas they recognize they need to be part of the solution.ā
Stable Diffusion XL (SDXL) Released
Stability AI's Stable Diffusion XL (SDXL) is an advanced image generation model that uses shorter prompts to create stunning visuals with enhanced image composition and face generation capabilities. SDXL is currently in beta on DreamStudio and other imaging applications, and will be released as open-source software soon. The model also offers several ways to modify images, including inpainting, outpainting, and image-to-image prompting. Additionally, Stability AI provides customized solutions for enterprise API customers looking to integrate into their scalable platform. More info here and you can try SDXL on Clipdrop here.
