A.I. Stops NYC Commuters Avoiding Subway Fare
The subway system in New York City is using artificial intelligence to help catch people who don't pay their fares. They installed AI at seven subway stations to track people who enter without paying. The report shows that more than 50% of fare evaders use emergency gates, and others jump over or slip through the turnstiles. The subway system lost a lot of money last year because of fare evasion, around $690 million. The AI system will be used in more stations soon. Also, the subway fares are going up from $2.75 to $2.90 on August 20th.

We Are Doomed, ChatGPT is Getting Dumber
People who use ChatGPT, a popular chatbot, are worried that it's becoming less intelligent. They noticed that its responses seem less impressive and unique than before. Some think it might be because the company is trying to limit certain responses to gain public trust. Elon Musk, who helped create OpenAI, believes that trying to program morality into AI has caused issues. However, others argue that it could be just a temporary change or that users are underestimating their own ability to adapt. Testing the chatbot's limits is challenging, and it's hard to know for sure what's happening since the company is secretive about its training data. Some users feel that OpenAI might be more focused on its long-term goals rather than their specific experiences.
U.S. Military Believes A.I. Works Best With Western Values
A high-ranking Air Force general said that the U.S. military's use of artificial intelligence is more ethical because our society has a moral compass influenced by Judeo-Christian values. He believes that some countries might not follow the same ethical guidelines when using AI. However, experts point out that ethical considerations for AI are not limited to any specific religious or philosophical tradition. The U.S. government is working on guidelines for the ethical use of AI in warfare, and China is also advancing in AI technology. China's approach to ethics is different, influenced by Marxism and Communist Party guidance. Both countries consider ethical dilemmas when using AI in the military, but their values and history shape their policies differently.
Workstreamâs Multilingual Chatbot
Workstream, a platform for managing hourly workers, has developed a new AI chatbot called Workstream Assistant. This chatbot uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to communicate with hourly workers in multiple languages, making it more accessible to immigrants and non-English speakers. It helps workers learn more about job opportunities and company culture before applying, leading to better job fits and improved employee retention. Workstream has received funding from notable investors and has already helped big companies like Burger King and Marriott hire and keep millions of hourly employees. The new AI technology is a significant advancement for the hourly workforce.
